Healthy Breathing - The Cleansing Breath

This is your basic Super Power Breathing Exercise. All Super Power Breathing Exercises begin this way. Stand erect, feet about 15 to 18 inches apart, hands and arms relaxed at your sides (figure a). Raise your hands overhead (figure b). Now bend forward as far as possible – keeping your knees slightly bent and relaxed – exhaling at the same time through your mouth. Compress your chest and push upward with your diaphragm and abdominal muscles to expel all the stale air from your lungs (figure c).

Start by exhaling and inhaling as in Exercise 1. When your hands reach the overhead position, hold your breath (hold nose closed if necessary) and bend forward from the waist, knees bent, dropping your head below your heart, downward as far as possible.

Locate your kidneys on the lower back, just below the end of your rib cage near the waistline. Get the feel of them by placing your palms over this area, fingers and thumbs pointed downward. Use this position during the breath-holding part.

Exhale and inhale as at the beginning of Exercise 1. Now bring feet together and clasp your fingers overhead, palms upward. Keep legs stiff from the hips down. Now holding a full breath, bend slowly to right side, then the left side, with as much stretch as possible.
